Established in 2018 the Cuckmere Pilgrim Path is a clearly signed circular route of approximately 12-14 miles along existing footpaths which can be walked in one day. It starts at St Andrew’s church, Alfriston, East Sussex. This former small medieval market town lies by the Cuckmere River in the South Downs National Park between Lewes and Eastbourne.
The route can also be accessed on foot from the railway station at Berwick. In the clockwise direction the route circles to the west via Berwick, Alciston and Selmeston before crossing the Cuckmere River and returning to the east of the river via Arlington, Wilmington and Lullington.
The path divides into two optional routes between Alfriston and Wilmington. One ascends to a spectacular viewpoint on top of the South Downs above the Longman and then descends via Lullington church to Alfriston. The other takes the gentle path from Wilmington via Milton Street to Alfriston.
